We arrived at 4:30pm on a Sunday. Every winery was shut. But luckily, Martinborough Vineyard was kind enough to give us some booze.

Mmmm...wine from Martinborough Vineyard. Mischief managed!!!

That evening, we arrived on the southeastern town of Napier, world renowned for its Art Deco architecture and wineries. We stayed at the Criterion Art Deco Backpackers' Hostel, a former grand Art Deco hotel.

The grand balcony entrance to the Criterion Art Deco Backpacker.

Ever wonder what a hostel common room looks like in an Art Deco museum town? Well, here it is. :)

The Art Deco Masonic Lodge in Napier.

Napier's oceanside park, complete with Art Deco architecture and a swell 1920s car!

If it ain't Art Deco in Napier, it's Art Demo(litiion).

Napier's main street.

Napier is right on the Pacific Ocean, and the sun shone for the 3rd day on this trip!

The Art Deco office of The daily Telegraph. I kind of expected Clark Kent to come walking out of the entrance...

Napier's famous Pania of the Reef sculpture. It's the symbol of the city. They didn't like this pose at all.

If this photo reminds you of the Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen, you're right...they're very similar mermaid-in-love stories. And, both statues were stolen and recovered in 1995. Weird.

Napier's famous Gilray Fountain. It's not much to look at during the day, but at night, it's gorgeous.

It changes colors!

And shape!

It looks like fire!

Ooooh, pink...

...and purple...

The next day, we set out on our New Zealand Wine Tasting Adventure. Luckily, this winery knew we were coming, and set out some refreshments for us. :)
