So today was Shrove Tuesday, or Mardi Gras as it's known in the US. Many cultures celebrate the Tuesday before Lent in different ways; in Rio and Venice, there's Carnival; in New Orleans, it's Mardi Gras; in Vienna it's the Opera Ball.
