Venice

We arrived past midnight in Venice, and made our way to our hotel....and in January, Venice was absolutely deserted.
Our adorable hotel was a former palazzo, right on the canals in Castelleto. It had high vaulted ceilings and a chandelier!
The outside of Locanda La Corte, our guesthouse.
Our adorable breakfast nook, right on the canal.
The next morning, we were up early to explore Venice. This is one of the many, MANY churches on the island.
An utterly deserted Venice on a January Saturday.
The morning light was gorgeous over the canal, so we took a lot of photos...
No people, but lots of beautiful light and scenery.
....as the morning light brightened, the scenery changed.
Gondolas, waiting for tourists who aren't coming :)
More canal loveliness.
...artsy shot...
Even I find it easy to get a gorgeous shot of Venice in this light.
The Joneses (finally) in Venice!
Matt in a deserted St. Mark's Square.
St Mark's Square, slightly tilted...
A view from the arcade passageway to the Grand Canal.
St Mark's Basilica on a glorious winter morning.
The Joneses conquer St Marks!
The ornate doorway, with carvings and paintings, over the main St. Mark's entrance.
