Tunisia 2023

We arrived in Tunisia, and checked into our AirBnB guesthouse in Sidi Bou Said.
The next morning, we went to the ancient ruins of Carthage, right outside Sidi Bou Said.
The Carthage Museum! Note that the museum was closed for renovations :)
We have our tickets to see the archaeological park!
Tickets, check. Go explore Carthage!
The Carthage Archaeological Park entrance begins at Byrsa Hill, and overlooks the massive space.
Fun with Carthaginian statues.
I will admit that I didn't realize Carthage was real- I thought it was a fabled lost city like Atlantis!!
The Romans sacked Carthage in 146 BC, and after destroying the 500-year-old Carthaginian Empire, became the massive Roman Empire.
The site sprawls over multiple sites and hills, and Tunis's swankiest suburb lies WITHIN the park.
More fun with statues
OK, probably TOO much fun.
There are SO MANY artifacts that these mosaics are just sitting around.
The massive empty space where Hannibal-era villas used to be.
The reconstructed Roman amphitheater, where festivals are regularly hosted.
The most spectacular ruins are the Antonine Baths.
Me at the Antonine Baths of Carthage!
The Baths were built by Emperor Hadrian in 2 AD.
What you see is the ROOFTOPS and arches of the baths- the foundations are far below in a trench.
The baths site is massive- it was the largest bath complex in its time, outside of Rome.
