We arrived in southern Portugal, and began our adventure in Lagos in the Algarve. Yay sunshine!!!

I loved the rooftop sculptures of this Lagos buildling.
The next day, we drove three hours north to Evora in the center of Portugal. This was our hotel inside the Old Town walls, Pensao Policarpo.
Evora is a medieval walled city, and Pensao Policarpo is inside the walls.
The Pensao is a former convent....with very teeny doorways.
Our room featured hand-painted murals on the ceilings.

Portugal is famous for its painted tiles, called azulejos. Evora's church had some gorgeous tiles.
Evora is famous for its amazingly well-preserved Roman ruins. These columns were enclosed in the MIddle Ages and used as a meat market, so they're almost in perfect condition.
It is strange to go around a cobblestone alleyway, and suddenly see Roman columns in Old Town!
At dinner, I discovered deliciousness: White port. Mmmmmm.
We departed Evora, and drove west to Lisbon, the capital. Our hotel, Residencial Florescente, was right on the pedestrian throughfare.
