Madrid, Segovia, & Toledo

Semana Santa 2024
It's Semana Santa! We OUIGO'ed to Madrid for the weekend. From Madrid we took a bus to see Segovia.
As you exit the bus station in Segovia, the famous aqueduct is right there, in the center plaza.
The Romans built this aqueduct in the 1st century AD, and it was in use until 1973!
Matt conquers the aqueduct of Segovia!
Plaza Medina del Campo, the old medieval city center of Segovia.
There was an Easter-themed art exhibit nearby, with drawings by local children. And here we thought we were escaping all the creepy Easter sh*t in Spain this year...
Segovia is a hilltop city surrounded by stone walls, with the Alcázar overlooking the cliffs.
Our walking tour led us along the city walls towards the Alcázar.
Our 15 minutes of sunshine of this weekend!
Approaching the Alcázar from its public park entrance.
I had no idea that Segovia's Alcázar was so gorgeous. It was the inspiration for the castle in the Walt Disney cartoon "Cinderella."
We noticed we were suddenly on the Camino!
The Camino de Madrid, to be exact.
Segovia's pilgrim stop, to get a sello ono your credencial!
The view of the Alcázar from the Camino de Madrid.
The Cathedral of Segovia.
One last photo before we caught our bus back to Madrid for the evening.
We went on an old-school tapas crawl in Madrid that night: 5 bars, 5 drinks. First drink was a caña at Alhambra.
Second drink was house-made sweet red wine at Mi Abuelo's.
Third drink was oruja de crema at Cerveceria Almacen.
