For our 2020 Annimoon, we cashed in air miles and flew to Ethiopia BUSINESS CLASS. First flight: BCN-Doha, Qatar.
2nd flight: Doha, Qatar-Addis Ababa.
Champagne toast at liftoff!
We landed at Addis Ababa at 1am, then flew back out at 11am the next morning to the town of Lalibela.
Lalibela's airport has 1 gate, and 1 open runway.
We stayed at Merkeza Guesthouse, a new little guesthouse run by a family who lives on the property.
By Ethiopian standards, the room was palatial: Airy, clean, bright, and with hot water and incredibly comfortable mattresses.
The currency in Ethiopia is called "birr": So obviously...."Pardon me, are you Ethiopian birr, sir?"
The family's "tukul," or Ethiopian hut, served as the Merkeza Guesthouse breakfast room.
Lalibela is famous for its monolith rock-hewn churches. Here, pilgrims walk up the hills to attend services in one of the churches.
