In early July, we took a day trip to the Costa Brava town of Tossa de Mar, described as a "picture-perfect beach town."
We spent a lovely morning on Platja Es Codolar, a small beach in the shadow of an 11th-century castle.
I had a brand-new floaty ring to play in the sea with :)
Picture-perfect, indeed. Tossa de Mar was stunning.
We brought our trusty little beach tent along to enjoy the day.
After sufficient beachy time, we explored the medieval town.
Tossa de Mar is a formerly walled city from the 12th century, and the only remaining walled city on the Catalunyan coast. You can still walk these amazing walls and see the Old Town.
A view from the castle fortifications down to Platja Es Codolar.
A magnificent view from the hilltop over the castle!
Our beach day complete, we immediately retired to a small restaurant for a menu del dia and goblets of vermouth.
