Andorra
We arrived in Andorra for Matt's birthday! And since Andorra is one of the only countries without an airport or train station, we arrived via the National Bus Station.
Andorra la Vella, Andorra's capital city...and the highest altitude capital in Europe.
Our adorable hostal in Old Town: Cisco de Sans Hostal.
The view from our hostal over the Pyrenees Mountains.
A token photo at one of Andorra's most famous sights: The Dali Sculpture.
Matt's version of the shot!
The Joneses conquer Andorra!!
But first: Lunch. Pintxos, to be exact.
Pinxtos, prepare to please me.
For Matt's birthday dinner, we had a 3-course feast with cava (thanks to Groupon) at Buda Espai, a swank bistro.
An artsy birthday shot.
Andorra in the morning: The Gran Valira River runs through the town.
Andorra is tiny, and most of the town borders the river.
Public art in Old Town.
Andorra felt bizarrely Alpine. The architecture was Swiss and Bavarian.
More public art in Old Town!
A wedding was taking place in Old Town...
More of the Pyrenees-surrounded Old Town.
Andorra is known for its skiing and for being a tax haven, but also for its thermal waters. With another Groupon, we spent a day at Andorra's famous Caldea Spa!
But first, Matt must conquer the mini-Caldea model.
The futuristic entrance to the Caldea Spa.
The Spa was stunning. It was space-age-themed, all under a geodesic dome.
The waters are all naturally heated.
Enjoying the spa :)
I AM IN MY NATURAL HABITAT
The indoor spa had a river that accessed the outdoor pool.
Our toes have a lovely view of the Pyrenees.
The Joneses conquer the spa!
The Spa included the indoor and outdoor pools, Icelandic ice baths, steam rooms, water massages, and multiple jacuzzis.
I choose this one.
Spa mischief managed.
...and this is my favorite photo of the trip.
And we end our Andorran birthday weekend with a weird arty shot.
